Wike Set to Meet Area Council Chairmen, NUT, and NANS Over Ongoing Teachers’ Strike

In a decisive move to address the escalating teachers’ strike in the Federal Capital Territory, the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, is scheduled to hold a high-level meeting tomorrow with area council chairmen, representatives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and officials of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

The meeting, which is expected to take place at the FCTA Secretariat in Abuja, follows days of disrupted academic activities across public schools in the territory due to grievances raised by striking teachers. Central among the issues are unpaid salaries, poor working conditions, and unresolved welfare demands, which the NUT says have lingered for far too long without meaningful government intervention.

Minister Wike, known for his direct approach to crisis resolution, is expected to use the dialogue to broker peace between the concerned parties and chart a path toward reopening the affected schools. Sources within the FCTA confirm that the minister has described the strike as a matter of urgent public concern, given its adverse impact on students and the overall academic calendar.

The presence of NANS at the meeting underscores the growing frustration among students, many of whom have taken to social media to demand swift action from authorities. With mounting pressure from parents and civil society groups, stakeholders are hopeful that the scheduled meeting will yield concrete resolutions to end the impasse.

As the standoff enters a critical phase, all eyes will be on tomorrow’s engagement to see whether Minister Wike can broker a breakthrough and restore normalcy to the FCT’s public education system.
