Wild Elephant Spotted in Ogun Community After Fatal Farmer Attack

A giant elephant has been sighted roaming through Imobi/Itasin communities in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, sparking concerns among residents.

The latest sighting comes days after reports emerged of an elephant fatally attacking a local farmer in the same area. Witnesses describe the animal as unusually large and appearing without provocation in farmlands near the forest boundary.

Local authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the elephant’s presence or the previous deadly incident. Community leaders are advising residents to exercise extreme caution and avoid the animal’s path while awaiting intervention from wildlife officials.

Conservation experts suggest the elephant may have strayed from nearby forest reserves, possibly due to habitat encroachment or seasonal migration patterns common in the region. The incident highlights growing human-wildlife conflicts in Nigeria’s forest border communities.
