The Yobe State Government has categorically denied recent claims that Boko Haram insurgents issued eviction notices to residents of certain communities in Gujba Local Government Area. This clarification was made by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Retd.), the Special Adviser on Security Matters, following a state security council meeting in Damaturu, presided over by Deputy Governor Alhaji Idi Gubana.
General Abdulsalam emphasized that such rumors are unfounded and misleading, urging the public to disregard them. He assured residents that there is no credible intelligence supporting the existence of such threats and encouraged them to continue their daily activities without fear. He stated, “The government, in collaboration with security agencies, remains committed to safeguarding all communities.”
This statement comes in response to reports suggesting that Boko Haram terrorists had given a seven-day ultimatum to residents of certain Gujba communities to vacate their homes. The state government has dismissed these claims, reinforcing its dedication to maintaining peace and security in the region.
Newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Osun, also reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to uphold peace and order, particularly during the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. He urged parents and guardians to monitor their children and discourage reckless behavior during the festivities.
The security council meeting concluded with commendations for traditional rulers and community leaders for their ongoing roles in conflict resolution and fostering peace within their communities.
