The Youth in Parliament has voiced support for decisive action to restore order in Rivers State, citing the need to curb the escalating political crisis and ensure stability in governance.
According to the group, swift intervention is necessary to prevent further chaos and protect the interests of the people.
In a statement, Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, chairman of the Youth in Parliament and lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North, South, and Orire federal constituency in the House of Representatives, emphasized the urgency of the situation.
He noted that recent political tensions in Rivers have worsened, raising concerns about a potential breakdown in law and order.
“The President must do everything within his power to restore sanity in Rivers and safeguard the people from the negative consequences of political instability,” he said.
While acknowledging that emergency measures should not serve as a long-term solution, Alao-Akala stressed that immediate intervention is the best course of action to prevent anarchy.
“The Youth in Parliament stands for democracy and good governance. However, when internal disputes threaten democratic stability, it becomes the responsibility of the authorities to act. The people of Rivers deserve peace, and any measure that guarantees that peace is justified,” he added.
The Youth in Parliament, a group advocating for increased youth involvement in governance, also urged all political stakeholders in Rivers State to set aside personal or partisan interests and prioritize the welfare of the people.
