YPP Denies Alliance with APGA, Vows to Contest Anambra Governorship Election

The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has strongly refuted claims by Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, that it plans to collapse its structures in support of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the upcoming November 8 governorship election. In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Egbeola Martins, the YPP described Soludo’s assertion as false and misleading. Martins emphasized that the YPP remains a significant political force in Nigeria and Anambra, committed to offering a viable alternative to the current leadership.

The YPP has reaffirmed its intention to field a credible candidate in the election, focusing on winning and providing a better, more inclusive, and progressive governance for Anambra State. The party urged the people of Anambra to disregard the claims and focus on the real issues affecting the state’s future. This development comes as political parties in Anambra are gearing up for their primaries, with the APC and Labour Party also set to hold theirs. The APC has cleared seven aspirants for its primary, while the Labour Party is leveraging its popularity from the 2023 elections to challenge APGA’s dominance.
[04/04, 11:52] Halimat ACTIVATE: Peter Obi Condemns Plateau Killings, Calls for Urgent Government Intervention”

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed profound concern over the recent wave of violence in Plateau State, where attacks on five communities in Bokkos Local Government Area have left several families in mourning. In a statement released on Friday via his verified X account, Obi described the killings as “senseless” and lamented the slaughter of entire families, including children and pregnant women, who were later buried in mass graves.

The attacks, which affected the communities of Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai, reportedly began on Wednesday when gunmen stormed Tamiso village during a Christian fellowship meeting at a COCIN church. The violence claimed at least five lives and left 18 others hospitalized. Confirming the incident, Mr. Kefas Mallai, Chairman of Community Peace Observers in Bokkos LGA, said the attack caused widespread panic and displacement among residents.

Reacting to the tragedy, Obi questioned the normalization of violence across Nigeria and criticized the government’s perceived inaction. “How long will these killings, kidnapping, maiming, and criminality continue in our nation that is not at war? How many more must die before the government acts decisively?” he asked. He further highlighted similar security challenges in other states such as Benue, Enugu, Ondo, and Anambra, where communities live in constant fear.

Obi called on the government and security agencies to take swift and decisive action to end the killings and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice. He stressed that no Nigerian should live in fear and urged authorities to prioritize protecting lives and property. Offering his condolences to the affected families, Obi stated, “My heart goes out to the people of Bokkos and others in various communities. We must end this grief and terror; it is becoming extremely unacceptable.”

The attack adds to Nigeria’s growing insecurity crisis. According to reports from earlier this year, over 1,230 Nigerians were killed in violent incidents during the first quarter alone. Obi reiterated the need for strategic measures to address poverty and unemployment as long-term solutions to insecurity while urging traditional and religious leaders to promote peace among their communities.
