Fire Razes Herbal Products Worth Millions in Oyo Storage Facility

A fire has destroyed herbal products worth millions of naira at a storage facility in Oyo Town, Oyo State. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at a facility located at Olanlokun Junction, Obabi Street, in the Old Cele area of the town.

Yemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the fire in a statement issued on Sunday. According to Akinyinka, the fire was reported at 10:39 AM, and emergency response teams arrived at the scene just six minutes later.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered large piles of local herbs stored within the premises of a residential building, which was being used as a warehouse for various herbal products. The fire had already engulfed the storage area, but thanks to the quick response from the fire service team, it was contained before it could spread to the main building and surrounding structures.

Akinyinka stated that the firefighting operation was swift, with the officers preventing further damage. However, the large volume of herbal products stored in the facility made it a challenging situation. It took the firefighters over three hours to completely extinguish the fire.

Despite the destruction, Akinyinka commended the efforts of his team for saving properties worth several millions of naira, ensuring the fire did not escalate further. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined as investigations are ongoing.
