ICPC Chairman Delivers Goodwill Message at Forum on Nigeria’s Asset Recovery Regime

The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, on Tuesday delivered a goodwill message at a public policy forum themed “An Assessment of Nigeria’s Asset Recovery Regime,” held in Abuja.

The event, organised by the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity (CeFTPI), brought together anti-corruption stakeholders, legal experts, and representatives of civil society to examine Nigeria’s framework for recovering illicit assets and improving accountability in the management of recovered funds.

In his remarks, Dr. Aliyu highlighted the importance of a robust asset recovery regime in the fight against corruption and emphasized the need for greater inter-agency collaboration, legislative reforms, and transparency in the handling of recovered assets.

He said, “Asset recovery is a critical component of our anti-corruption strategy. Beyond seizure, there must be a credible process that ensures transparency, accountability, and public trust in how recovered assets are managed.”

The ICPC boss also noted that ongoing efforts by government agencies, supported by civil society organizations, have helped to improve compliance with international standards and boost Nigeria’s image in the global anti-corruption space.

Other participants at the forum included representatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), and the Ministry of Justice, among others.

The forum concluded with a call for the adoption of clear legal frameworks, public reporting mechanisms, and citizen oversight to strengthen Nigeria’s asset recovery regime and promote public integrity.
