Governor Sanwo-Olu is Delivering on Poverty Reduction — Analysts Highlight Impact Across Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has continued to receive commendation for the administration’s commitment to poverty reduction and inclusive growth, with policy analysts and development stakeholders pointing to measurable impacts across key sectors.

Speaking during a recent economic forum in Ikeja, policy experts noted that initiatives under the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda have not only stimulated job creation but also improved access to healthcare, education, and affordable housing for thousands of Lagosians.

Dr. Yetunde Alade, an economist with the Centre for Public Policy, described the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) and various skill acquisition programmes as “transformative,” citing that over 200,000 residents have benefitted from loans, grants, and entrepreneurship training under the current administration.

Additionally, Sanwo-Olu’s administration has rolled out targeted social protection initiatives including the ‘Eko Cares’ food palliative programme, free maternal and child healthcare services, and expansion of the Ilera Eko health insurance scheme — all aimed at cushioning the economic pressures on low-income households.

In the education sector, the Comprehensive School Programme and digital learning expansion have equipped thousands of public school students with vocational and technological skills, aligning with the administration’s goal to make Lagos a 21st-century economy.

Housing interventions such as the completion and commissioning of affordable housing estates in Ikate Elegushi, Ibeshe, and Igbogbo, among others, have also provided shelter to hundreds of low- and middle-income earners.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a recent statement, reiterated his administration’s resolve to “leave no one behind,” noting that poverty alleviation remains a top priority, especially amid rising economic challenges nationwide.

“We are not just building roads and bridges — we are building people, empowering families, and securing the future of Lagos,” he stated.

As the second term of his administration progresses, many residents and civil society groups are optimistic that the current trajectory will deepen resilience, reduce inequality, and uplift more citizens across Africa’s largest megacity.
