The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday convened a high-level strategic conference with senior police officers across the country at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, aimed at reviewing ongoing security operations and fine-tuning strategies to address emerging threats to national peace and stability.
The closed-door meeting brought together Deputy Inspectors-General, Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners of Police, and other top-ranking officers for a comprehensive appraisal of the security situation across the six geopolitical zones. The IGP, while addressing the gathering, commended officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for their professionalism, resilience, and swift responsiveness in tackling various criminal activities nationwide.
Egbetokun noted that the successes recorded in recent months, including the arrest of high-profile criminal suspects, dismantling of kidnapping syndicates, recovery of illegal arms, and improved community-police relations, are testament to the dedication and coordination within the Force. He emphasized that despite numerous operational challenges, officers have continued to demonstrate unwavering commitment to duty.
He charged the senior officers to maintain momentum and deepen intelligence-led policing strategies, especially as the nation navigates socio-political and economic transitions. According to the IGP, the conference serves not only as a review platform but also as a forward-looking forum to realign operational tactics with current security realities.
“As custodians of law enforcement, we must continue to project courage, discipline, and impartiality in the discharge of our duties. Nigerians are watching, and they rely on us to keep their communities safe. We cannot afford to fail,” Egbetokun said.
The IGP also used the occasion to highlight internal reforms and welfare packages being implemented under his leadership, including enhanced training, improved logistics support, and a renewed emphasis on accountability and transparency within the Force.
The strategic conference comes at a time when the Nigeria Police Force is intensifying efforts to combat banditry, terrorism, cybercrime, and other forms of organized crime, especially in the northern and southeastern parts of the country. The IGP reiterated the need for synergy among security agencies, urging officers to foster stronger collaboration with the military, intelligence agencies, and local stakeholders.
As the session concluded, senior officers expressed commitment to cascading the outcomes of the conference to their various commands and units, in line with the Force’s mission to ensure a safer and more secure Nigeria for all.
