The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, participated in the 32nd Annual Meeting of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), held in Abuja, Nigeria, highlighting the strategic role of cross-border mobility in promoting regional economic integration.
The high-level event brought together African leaders, policymakers, business executives, and key stakeholders to discuss pathways for accelerating intra-African trade, industrial development, and economic transformation under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.
In her remarks, Comptroller General Nandap emphasized the critical role immigration plays in facilitating legal migration, trade efficiency, and border security. She noted that seamless regional mobility remains essential to harnessing Africa’s demographic dividend and driving economic growth across borders.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service is committed to supporting the AfCFTA vision by enhancing trade facilitation through secure and efficient migration systems,” she stated, while reaffirming NIS’s collaboration with relevant agencies and member states to streamline documentation, strengthen identity management, and curb irregular migration.
Nandap also participated in thematic sessions focused on trade-enabling infrastructure, security, and the role of digital identity in supporting cross-border commerce. Her presence underscored Nigeria’s ongoing reforms aimed at modernizing border management systems and positioning the country as a hub for trade and investment.
The 2025 Afreximbank Annual Meetings served as a platform for regional synergy, with discussions on financing innovation, supporting SMEs, and building resilient economies across Africa.
