Washington, D.C. — July, 2025 — The United States Department of Justice has charged a Nigerian national, Olatunbosun Osukoya, along with 323 other individuals, in connection with an extensive nationwide crackdown on health care fraud schemes that have led to an estimated $14 billion in intended losses.
The operation, which is described as one of the largest coordinated law enforcement actions targeting health care fraud in the country’s history, involved multiple federal agencies including the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Office of the Inspector General.
According to U.S. authorities, the accused individuals are alleged to have participated in diverse fraudulent schemes, ranging from billing for services not rendered to exploiting vulnerable individuals for illicit financial gain through telemedicine, prescription fraud, and home health care abuse.
Olatunbosun Osukoya was specifically identified in connection with a ring suspected of orchestrating a false billing scheme involving durable medical equipment and telehealth services. Federal prosecutors stated that Osukoya and his co-conspirators submitted fake claims and falsified medical documents to extract payments from Medicare and Medicaid programs.
“These arrests mark a firm stance by the United States government to protect its health care systems from exploitation and hold perpetrators accountable, regardless of nationality,” said U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland during a press briefing.
The U.S. Justice Department has emphasized that it will continue to work closely with international partners to trace cross-border fraud and ensure justice is served.
Osukoya and the other suspects are expected to appear before various district courts across the United States, with charges ranging from conspiracy to commit health care fraud, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and money laundering.
If convicted, they face significant prison terms and forfeiture of assets linked to the fraudulent proceeds.
