Ganduje Named FAAN Board Chairman

Abuja, July 9, 2025

Former Kano Governor and APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) by President Bola Tinubu, according to a statement from the president’s office released last Friday via Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga.

Ganduje leads a group of 42 board chairpersons selected for various federal agencies, marking the first time some party executives have been appointed to such regulatory roles.

His appointment sparked debate among stakeholders due to his ongoing corruption allegations, including a 2018 video showing him allegedly accepting bribes during his time as governor—claims that remain under investigation. Critics argue this could impact FAAN’s reputation.

FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, hosted Ganduje on a maiden tour of Murtala Muhammed Airport, with the chairman briefed on operational challenges and site plans.

The APC Initiative for Good Governance praised Ganduje, citing his leadership and infrastructure record in Kano and expressing confidence in his ability to guide FAAN’s modernisation.
