British High Commission Mourns Former President Muhammadu Buhari

The British High Commission in Nigeria has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Nigerian President, His Excellency General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

In an official condolence message released on Saturday, the Commission extended its heartfelt sympathies to the Buhari family, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the entire Nigerian populace over the loss of the former leader.

“We mourn the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari and extend our deepest condolences to his family, the government, and the people of Nigeria,” the statement read.

General Buhari, a former military Head of State and two-term civilian President of Nigeria, passed away at the age of 81. He is remembered for his decades-long influence on Nigeria’s political landscape, marked by his firm stance on anti-corruption and national security during his presidency from 2015 to 2023.

The British High Commission praised Buhari’s dedication to Nigeria’s unity and governance, noting his role in fostering bilateral ties between the United Kingdom and Nigeria throughout his administration.

As tributes continue to pour in from local and international dignitaries, plans are expected to be announced for official state honours in recognition of the late President’s contributions to national development and diplomacy.
