The newly appointed Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Abdullahi Ramat, formally assumed office today, marking the beginning of his tenure at the helm of the nation’s power sector regulatory body.
Ramat, who succeeds the outgoing chairman, pledged to work towards improving efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the electricity market. He emphasized that his administration would focus on expanding access to electricity, enhancing service delivery, and fostering a competitive power sector that attracts investment.
Speaking after taking office, Ramat noted that Nigeria’s electricity sector faces significant challenges, including infrastructure gaps, revenue shortfalls, and consumer dissatisfaction, but assured stakeholders of decisive reforms aimed at sustainable solutions.
Senior officials of NERC, representatives from the Ministry of Power, and industry stakeholders attended the handover ceremony, expressing optimism that his leadership would bring renewed momentum to the sector’s transformation agenda.
