Acting Surveyor-General Urges Staff to Uphold Diligence, Improve Service Delivery

The Acting Surveyor-General of the Federation, Surv. (Mrs.) Bola Adeyemi, has charged personnel of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGoF) to recommit themselves to diligence, professionalism, and enhanced service delivery in the execution of their duties.

Surv. Adeyemi gave the charge during a recent interactive session with senior and junior staff members at the OSGoF headquarters in Abuja. She emphasized the need for a renewed sense of responsibility and excellence as the office continues to play a pivotal role in the spatial data management and mapping architecture of the nation.

According to her, the Surveyor-General’s office remains central to national planning and development, particularly in areas such as infrastructure mapping, land administration, and boundary demarcation. She reiterated that the success of government initiatives heavily depends on the accuracy and reliability of geospatial data produced by the agency.

“As civil servants entrusted with critical national responsibilities, we must carry out our duties with integrity, precision, and a deep commitment to the public good. Our role impacts everything from urban planning to disaster management. There is no room for mediocrity,” she stated.

Surv. Adeyemi also highlighted the importance of embracing modern surveying technologies, including the use of drones, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and satellite imaging, as tools to improve productivity and efficiency within the agency. She assured staff that management is working towards ensuring an enabling environment and capacity development to keep pace with global best practices.

While pledging to uphold transparency and accountability during her tenure, she also warned that laxity and misconduct would no longer be tolerated, as the office aims to reposition itself as a model institution within the federal public service.

Staff members at the meeting expressed support for the Acting Surveyor-General’s vision and pledged to rededicate themselves to the agency’s mandate. The session ended with a call for teamwork and regular performance evaluations to drive measurable improvements in service delivery.

The Office of the Surveyor-General plays a critical role in Nigeria’s development framework, providing foundational geospatial data that informs decision-making across government, private sector, and international development partners.
