Airlines Shuffle Flight Plans as Israel‑Iran Tensions Escalate

In a swift response to the widening Israel, Iran crisis, global carriers are cancelling and rerouting flights to safeguard passengers and crews. Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus has halted services to Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon until June 30, and to Iran until July 30. Its flag‑carrier counterpart, Turkish Airlines, has suspended flights to Baghdad, Damascus and Tehran through at least July 1. Meanwhile, Finland’s Finnair has suspended flights to Doha, and is now avoiding airspace over Iran, Iraq, Syria and Israel.

Several Gulf nations, including Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain and Kuwait, have temporarily closed their airspace following Iranian missile strikes on U.S. bases in the region, triggering cancellations and emergency rerouting of hundreds of flights.

Major regional airlines, Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, flydubai, plus international carriers such as British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Qantas, and Virgin Australia have also suspended or adjusted numerous scheduled routes and transit connections, with some flights now diverted via Northern Africa or Central Asia to circumvent the danger zones .

European giants like Lufthansa have pulled services to Tel Aviv and Tehran through the end of July and early July, respectively; Air France, KLM, British Airways, Wizz Air, Ryanair, and Air India are similarly rerouting or suspending flights to affected areas .

Disruptions are most profound over Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian, and Israeli skies, trapped by what one analyst calls a “dramatically narrowed corridor”, prompting longer flight durations, higher fuel consumption, and increased ticket prices.

Passenger advisories urge travellers connecting through Middle Eastern hubs, Doha, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, to stay alert, monitor airline notices, and avoid cancelling flights prematurely, as flexible rebooking options remain available.
