The Akwa Ibom State Government has announced free tickets for the Super Eagles’ crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe, scheduled for Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
In a statement on Monday, the state’s Commissioner for Sports, Paul Bassey, revealed that Governor Umo Eno had purchased all 30,000 available tickets to encourage massive support for the national team.
Free Ticket Distribution
Bassey outlined several collection points for the free tickets, including:
– All radio stations in the state
– De Venus Bar and Restaurant on Stadium Road, Uyo
– Uyo Township Stadium
– Ibom Plaza
– Previous ticket sales outlets
The commissioner emphasized that no tickets would be sold or distributed at the stadium on match day, urging fans to collect theirs in advance. He also warned that only ticket holders would be granted entry and advised adherence to seating arrangements and security protocols.
NFF Promises Free Jerseys for Early Fans
In a related development, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced that the first 500 fans to obtain tickets would receive free Super Eagles jerseys.
NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, called on supporters to fill the stadium and create a vibrant atmosphere by wearing Nigeria’s national colours.
“We urge Nigerians to come out in large numbers to support the Super Eagles on Tuesday. The team needs this backing. When we played Rwanda in Kigali last Friday, their stadium was packed. Let’s show the same energy here in Uyo,” Sanusi stated.
Super Eagles Seek Redemption
The Super Eagles are in a tough spot in their World Cup qualifying campaign, sitting fourth in their group with just six points from five matches. Their only victory so far came against Rwanda last Friday.
A win against Zimbabwe is crucial to reviving Nigeria’s hopes of securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, follow security guidelines, and cheer the team to victory.
