In a significant development ahead of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has emerged as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate after winning the party’s primary election unopposed. This outcome positions him strongly for a re-election bid, leveraging his achievements in infrastructure development and economic initiatives during his first term.
Soludo’s unopposed victory underscores the confidence of APGA in his leadership, particularly given his notable strides in road construction and urban development. Projects such as the rehabilitation of urban roads in Awka and Onitsha, the Amansea Ndiukwuenu Ufuma road, and the ambitious Amawbia Agulu Ekwulobia road dualization have been highlighted as key achievements by APGA officials.
The ruling party is optimistic about Soludo’s chances, emphasizing the zoning arrangement that has historically allowed each senatorial district to produce a governor. Since Soludo is from Anambra South, which has not had a governor serve two terms in recent history, there is a strong argument for his re-election to complete the zone’s tenure.
Despite these advantages, Soludo faces challenges from aspirants on other platforms, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has seen an influx of veteran politicians vying for its ticket. These aspirants have criticized Soludo’s handling of insecurity in the state, a major campaign issue.
However, endorsements from influential figures like Minister Dave Umahi and former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Willie Obiano, Chief Primus Odili, have bolstered Soludo’s re-election prospects. They have praised his development efforts and argued that his achievements justify another term in office.
