Club aims to secure long-term future of key player amid European interest

Arsenal have initiated formal contract discussions with England international Bukayo Saka as the 23-year-old enters the final two years of his current deal, according to sources close to the club. The move underscores the Gunners’ determination to retain one of their most influential talents amid anticipated interest from top European clubs. 

Saka, whose existing contract expires in 2027, signed a £10 million-per-season deal in 2022. However, Arsenal are keen to avoid future uncertainty by extending his stay early, with talks expected to intensify in the coming weeks. The forward has been sidelined since December following surgery for a hamstring injury sustained against Crystal Palace but remains pivotal to Mikel Arteta’s title-chasing squad. 

Injury Recovery and Return Timeline
Saka is nearing a return to action after Arteta confirmed the winger has a “good chance” of featuring post-international break. Arsenal’s next Premier League fixture is against Fulham at the Emirates on April 1. 

European Interest and Previous Suitors
Before committing to his 2022 extension, Saka attracted serious interest from Manchester City. His status as one of Europe’s elite attacking talents ensures clubs will monitor negotiations closely, though Arsenal remain optimistic. The club’s resurgence as Premier League contenders and consistent Champions League involvement are seen as key factors in persuading Saka to renew. 

Contract Situations of Other Key Players

Thomas Partey and Jorginho are set to depart this summer as free agents unless new terms are agreed. 

Leandro Trossard, whose current deal runs until 2026, has already held preliminary extension talks. 

Defensive stalwarts William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, both contracted until 2027, are also in discussions over new deals. Saliba recently stated, “I’m really happy here and want to continue,” though formal talks have yet to begin. Gabriel, meanwhile, has drawn interest from Saudi Arabian clubs.
