Atiku Declares Education the Ultimate Game Changer, Urges AUN Class of 2025 to Embrace Patience and Courage

Yola, Adamawa State — Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, founder of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), has emphasized the transformative power of education as he addressed the university’s graduating Class of 2025. In his speech, Atiku described education as the ultimate game changer, urging graduates to cultivate patience and courage as essential virtues for success.

Speaking at the convocation ceremony, Atiku recounted his personal journey, including the challenges he faced in accessing education. He revealed that his father was once imprisoned for insisting on his schooling, underscoring the value he places on education as a tool for empowerment.

Atiku also shared instances from his political life, highlighting moments where patience and moral courage shaped his decisions. He spoke of rejecting an unelected governorship appointment during Nigeria’s military era to pursue democratic legitimacy, and surviving an assassination attempt in Kaduna, demonstrating resilience in the face of adversity.

Addressing the graduates, Atiku encouraged them to build their futures on integrity, independence, and ethical conduct, reminding them that character and perseverance are key to meaningful achievements.

Dr. DeWayne Frazier, President of AUN, also addressed the ceremony, reiterating the university’s commitment to producing lifelong learners equipped for a rapidly evolving global environment, with strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation.

The convocation marked the graduation of over 200 students, predominantly undergraduates, celebrating their academic achievements and readiness to contribute positively to society.

In a highlight of the event, Atiku recognized 12-year-old chess prodigy Mary Zira, an AUN Academy student from Adamawa State, praising her exceptional talent and the university’s dedication to nurturing young gifted minds.

The ceremony underscored AUN’s mission to develop leaders who will drive Nigeria’s growth and transformation through education and ethical leadership.
