In a strategic move to revamp the primary healthcare sector, the Bauchi State Government has approved the disbursement of N872 million as counterpart funding, aimed at bolstering healthcare services across the state.
Governor Bala Mohammed, who was represented by his deputy, Auwal Jatau, made the announcement during a meeting of the State Task Force on Primary Healthcare held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Bauchi. The occasion also featured an award presentation ceremony to recognise outstanding contributions to the healthcare sector.
According to the deputy governor, the sum of N261,708,491.00 has already been released to the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Board. This initial funding forms part of the administration’s broader commitment to ensuring increased access to essential health services, especially in underserved communities. He reaffirmed that the present administration is prioritising investment in health infrastructure, workforce motivation, and access to life-saving services, with a special focus on maternal and child health.

Governor Mohammed, through his representative, commended the relentless efforts of healthcare professionals, local government teams, facility heads, and grassroots volunteers whose dedication continues to sustain and improve the delivery of primary healthcare in the state. He described their contributions as the cornerstone of the state’s ongoing progress in the health sector.
“Our administration remains dedicated to providing the necessary support and resources to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for every resident of Bauchi State,” the governor stated. “The awards presented today symbolise our profound appreciation for those who go the extra mile in serving our people. We will not relent in implementing impactful health programmes that cater to both rural and urban populations, with particular attention to the needs of women and children.”
The governor also acknowledged the significant role played by development partners, whose financial and technical support has continued to enhance the capacity of the state’s healthcare system. He called for continued collaboration to ensure that the state’s health sector remains resilient and responsive to the needs of its citizens.
Speaking at the event, the Co-Chairman of the State Task Force on Primary Healthcare and the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded in the execution of various health initiatives across the state. He also lauded the administration’s efforts in mobilising resources and sustaining political will to improve health outcomes in Bauchi.
The disbursement of the N872 million fund is expected to contribute significantly to the implementation of essential health services, expansion of outreach programmes, training and retention of frontline workers, and the upgrade of medical facilities. It comes at a time when states are increasingly being called upon to strengthen local healthcare systems in line with the Federal Government’s push for improved national health indicators.
With this financial commitment, the Bauchi State Government has reaffirmed its resolve to build a stronger, more inclusive healthcare system that guarantees the well-being of every citizen, regardless of their location or socio-economic status.
