Munich, Germany – Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have secured the services of Colombian winger Luis Díaz from Liverpool in a deal worth up to €75 million, the club announced on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old attacker, who won four major trophies during his two-and-a-half year stint at Anfield, has signed a five-year contract with the German giants through 2029. The transfer fee ranks as the third-highest in Bayern’s history, behind only the acquisitions of Harry Kane (€95m) and Lucas Hernandez (€80m).
“Luis Díaz brings championship pedigree and exceptional quality to our squad,” said Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. “His winning mentality from Liverpool aligns perfectly with our ambitions.”
Díaz expressed enthusiasm about joining the Bavarian club: “Bayern represent one of football’s elite institutions. I’m determined to contribute my skills and character to help win every possible trophy.” The Colombian international scored 17 goals and provided eight assists across all competitions last season as Liverpool claimed their 20th English league title.
His departure fills a critical void in Bayern’s attack following long-term injuries to Jamal Musiala and the exits of veterans Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané. Díaz could make his debut when Bayern face Lyon in a preseason friendly this Saturday.
Liverpool fans received Díaz’s farewell message warmly on social media, where he described his Merseyside tenure as “an honor” and thanked supporters for “unforgettable memories.” The winger’s move continues Bayern’s strategic rebuild under new manager Vincent Kompany ahead of their Bundesliga title defense.
Díaz’s arrival signals Bayern’s intent to reclaim European dominance after last season’s Champions League disappointment. The Colombian joins preseason training immediately as preparations intensify for the new campaign.
