Investigators have recovered the black box from the wreckage of the Air India aircraft that tragically crashed earlier this week, killing at least 290 people, authorities confirmed on Friday.
The commercial flight, which was en route from New Delhi to London, went down under yet-to-be-determined circumstances, prompting a large-scale emergency response. Recovery teams worked tirelessly at the crash site, where charred debris and personal belongings were scattered across a vast area.
According to aviation officials, the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder—collectively known as the black box—were retrieved intact and have been sent to aviation safety analysts for thorough examination.
“The recovery of the black box is a crucial step in unraveling the cause of this tragic incident,” said an official from India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). “We expect preliminary findings within the coming days.”
Authorities have not yet ruled out mechanical failure, human error, or foul play, stating that all possibilities remain under investigation.
The crash has sent shockwaves across India and the international aviation community, with tributes pouring in for the victims. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the loss, pledging a full investigation and support for the families of the deceased.
The Air India tragedy marks one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent years and has reignited calls for stricter air safety regulations and more robust maintenance protocols.
