In a rare gesture underscoring the values of accountability and exemplary leadership, the Brigade Commander of the 9th Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Olawale Matthew Oyekola, personally visited the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos Sector Command’s Driver’s Licence Capture Centre in Ojodu to renew his driver’s licence.
The renewal exercise, which took place on June 30, 2025, was not only routine but symbolic. General Oyekola’s presence served as a strong message on the importance of law compliance and responsible citizenship by public officials and military personnel.
He was warmly received by the Lagos State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, who accompanied him to the capture area as the process was carried out. The Brigade Commander underwent the standard biometric capture and verification procedures like every other citizen, demonstrating commitment to due process and transparency.
Following the completion of the capture, Brigadier General Oyekola commended the FRSC Lagos Command for its efficient handling of the licensing procedure. He particularly lauded the professionalism, dedication, and resilience of the officers and men of the Corps in ensuring road safety and enforcing traffic regulations across the state.
“Your work is vital to national security and public safety,” the General said, adding that public confidence in institutions is reinforced when leaders subject themselves to the same procedures expected of every citizen.
Corps Commander Hamzat, in his remarks, thanked the Brigade Commander for his visit, describing it as a morale boost for the personnel. He noted that such acts of exemplary conduct by senior military officers encourage inter-agency cooperation and promote public trust in regulatory systems.
The visit is being widely applauded as a clear demonstration of ethical leadership and civil-military collaboration in service delivery. It reflects a shared vision of a society where every Nigerian, regardless of rank or title, adheres to established laws and procedures
