Former presidential spokesperson, Mallam Garba Shehu, has debunked speculations suggesting that former President Muhammadu Buhari is plotting against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Shehu described the allegations as baseless and malicious, asserting that Buhari remains fully supportive of Tinubu’s administration and has no intention of interfering in Nigeria’s political transition.
“President Buhari is not working against Tinubu. He has retired from politics and wishes the current administration nothing but success,” Shehu emphasized, adding that any reports to the contrary are the handiwork of mischief-makers trying to sow discord within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shehu further noted that Buhari, having completed his constitutionally permitted two terms in office, is now more focused on his post-presidency life in Daura, Katsina State, and has consistently avoided meddling in political affairs.
The clarification comes amid rising political speculation and internal party dynamics within the APC, as political actors begin early maneuvering ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Shehu called on the media and public to refrain from promoting false narratives and instead focus on national development, unity, and supporting the government in power.
