The Red Cross Society of China has donated 1,000 family relief kits to the Nigerian Red Cross Society to support communities affected by widespread flooding across the country.
The handover ceremony, held at the Nigerian Red Cross headquarters in Abuja, was facilitated through the Chinese Embassy.
Alongside the relief kits, China also pledged an additional $1 million in financial assistance to aid the rebuilding of flood-ravaged communities.
According to humanitarian agencies, flooding this year has affected more than 30 states in Nigeria, displacing over 600,000 people and resulting in significant loss of lives and livelihoods.
Officials of the Nigerian Red Cross expressed appreciation for the gesture, noting that the donation would strengthen ongoing relief efforts to reach vulnerable families in badly affected areas.
The aid package forms part of China’s broader support to Nigeria in addressing the humanitarian and infrastructural challenges caused by severe seasonal flooding.
