Customs, NACCIMA Forge Stronger Ties to Boost Trade Facilitation

Lagos, August 27, 2025 — The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) have pledged to deepen collaboration to improve trade facilitation, enhance transparency, and drive economic growth across the country.

This commitment was reaffirmed when the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, met with a delegation of NACCIMA led by its National President, Dele Oye, in Lagos. Both parties agreed to strengthen institutional cooperation in order to reduce trade bottlenecks, foster efficiency at the nation’s ports, and create a more business-friendly environment.

Adeniyi stressed that the Customs Service was committed to aligning its operations with international best practices while working with the private sector to implement innovative measures that would simplify cross-border trade. He noted that ongoing reforms, including automation of processes and stricter enforcement against smuggling, were designed to build investor confidence and support Nigeria’s role in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

“We recognize the crucial role the private sector plays in driving our economy. Strengthening our partnership with NACCIMA will help eliminate unnecessary barriers, promote compliance, and make Nigeria’s trade system more competitive,” Adeniyi said.

On his part, Oye described Customs as a strategic partner in the quest to boost Nigeria’s export potential and reduce the cost of doing business. He commended recent reforms within the Service and pledged NACCIMA’s readiness to work with Customs in policy advocacy, trade education, and creating a seamless framework for exporters and importers.

The meeting ended with both institutions reaffirming their shared vision to advance Nigeria’s economy by strengthening trade facilitation, improving revenue generation, and building stronger collaboration between government agencies and the private sector.
