EARTHQUAKE DEVASTATION: PRESIDENT XI EXTENDS HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES TO MYANMAR

Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a message of condolence to Myanmar following a catastrophic earthquake that has claimed more than 1,000 lives, according to information released by the Chinese foreign ministry.
In his communication to Myanmar’s leader Min Aung Hlaing, President Xi expressed profound grief over the destruction and pledged China’s willingness to provide necessary assistance to communities affected by the disaster.
Our sources confirm that a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck northwest of Sagaing region on Friday, followed by a significant 6.7-magnitude aftershock. The natural disaster has caused extensive damage to critical infrastructure, with Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest urban centre, suffering particularly severe impacts.
Reports indicate the earthquake’s effects extended beyond Myanmar’s borders, with tremors felt in neighbouring China’s Yunnan province and Thailand. In Bangkok, a building under construction collapsed, reportedly trapping approximately 100 workers.
The Chinese government has responded swiftly to the crisis, deploying an 82-member rescue team to Myanmar on Saturday. A separate team from Yunnan province has already arrived in Yangon. Furthermore, emergency humanitarian aid valued at 100 million yuan (approximately 13.8 million US dollars) has been committed by China, with initial relief shipments expected to commence today.
According to analysts, Myanmar’s ongoing internal conflicts have substantially weakened its emergency response capabilities and healthcare systems. Although Myanmar’s authorities have historically been reluctant to accept foreign assistance, the current administration has taken the unusual step of requesting international aid.
Chinese officials report that no Chinese nationals were among the casualties in this devastating natural disaster.
