Easter: FG Declares April 18 and 21 Public Holidays, Urges Prayers for National Unity

The Federal Government has officially declared Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, as public holidays in commemoration of Good Friday and Easter Monday celebrations across the country.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who conveyed the message on behalf of the Federal Government. In a statement released through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister extended warm felicitations to Christians nationwide as they mark one of the most sacred events in the Christian calendar.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Christians to reflect deeply on the selfless sacrifice and boundless love embodied in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which, according to the Christian faith, serves as the cornerstone of redemption for humanity. He emphasized the need for citizens to embrace the virtues of compassion, sacrifice, and love during this solemn period.

In his Easter goodwill message, the Minister also called on Nigerians of all faiths to take advantage of the holiday to pray fervently for the peace, unity, and continued stability of the nation, noting that this period offers an opportunity for collective reflection and spiritual rejuvenation.

He reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s firm commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, a policy framework designed to drive inclusive growth, social welfare, and national development. According to him, the administration remains steadfast in its pursuit of policies aimed at uplifting the living standards of all Nigerians and restoring citizens’ confidence in governance.

The Minister further encouraged citizens to demonstrate acts of kindness and generosity towards one another, especially to the less privileged, stressing that the spirit of Easter should be felt not just in words but in tangible expressions of love and community support.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo concluded by wishing Christians a peaceful and joyous Easter celebration, while extending his warmest holiday greetings to all Nigerians, regardless of religious or ethnic background, urging them to celebrate responsibly and in the spirit of national solidarity.
