The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning to motorists nationwide, urging them to shun reckless driving and strictly adhere to traffic regulations during the 2025 Easter celebrations. Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, in a directive to all Commanding Officers, emphasized the full deployment of personnel and resources across highways to ensure maximum visibility, swift removal of obstructions, and smooth traffic flow throughout the festive period.
The special Easter patrol, which runs from April 16 to 23, aims to drastically reduce road traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries, while guaranteeing prompt response to accident victims and unhindered public education on road safety. To reinforce these objectives, the FRSC has mobilized over 1,100 patrol vehicles, ambulances, motorbikes, and tow trucks, in addition to setting up 23 Help Areas, 15 traffic control camps, and 28 roadside clinics for emergency response.
In a move to curb traffic violations, the Corps has established more than 200 mobile courts nationwide to prosecute offenders on the spot. Offences targeted include speeding, dangerous driving, lane indiscipline, use of phones while driving, overloading, and failure to use seatbelts or child restraints, among others. The FRSC is also collaborating with strategic partners such as the police, military, NEMA, and state traffic agencies to ensure effective monitoring and enforcement.
Corps Marshal Mohammed appealed to the public to cooperate with FRSC officials and avoid actions that could endanger lives, stressing that the safety of all road users is paramount. He assured Nigerians that the extensive deployment and heightened surveillance would make for a safe and peaceful Easter celebration, and encouraged everyone to report emergencies via the FRSC’s dedicated hotlines.
