Edo Governor Okpebholo Pays April Salaries, Pensions Ahead of Easter to Cushion Economic Hardship

In a move widely applauded by workers and pensioners in Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo has authorised the early payment of April salaries and pensions across the state, a gesture aimed at easing financial pressure on citizens ahead of the Easter festivities.

The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, who disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, said the timely disbursement of wages and pensions—several days before the end of the month—underscores the administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of both active civil servants and retirees. He added that this initiative is part of the governor’s people-first approach to governance, particularly during periods of religious and cultural significance.

Governor Okpebholo, according to the statement, understands the economic challenges currently facing many households across Nigeria and believes it is imperative that the government plays a supportive role in helping its citizens celebrate major events like Easter with dignity and peace of mind.

“The Governor is deeply committed to the welfare of Edo workers and pensioners. The decision to release salaries and pensions ahead of the Easter celebration is a practical demonstration of that commitment,” the statement read. “We believe our Christian brothers and sisters deserve to celebrate the resurrection of Christ without being burdened by financial uncertainty. This is our modest way of showing appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices of our workforce and retirees.”

Itua further noted that the prompt payment reflects the administration’s fiscal discipline and prudent management of the state’s resources, which has enabled it to consistently meet its financial obligations despite prevailing economic headwinds across the country.

Under Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, the Edo State Government has continued to place strong emphasis on the welfare and wellbeing of its citizens, ensuring that timely salary and pension payments are not treated as favours but as rights. The administration has also assured the public that it remains steadfast in pursuing initiatives that directly uplift the living conditions of the people.

With the payment now completed, many public servants and pensioners are expected to enjoy a more relaxed Easter celebration, buoyed by a government that prioritises human dignity and responsible governance.
