Education District III Clinches Top Honours at LASTSAP Essay and Road Project Competition

Lagos, July 18, 2025 – Education District III has emerged victorious at the grand finale of the Lagos State Traffic Safety Advocacy Programme (LASTSAP) Essay and Road Project Competition, showcasing exceptional knowledge and innovation in traffic safety awareness among students.

The competition, which drew participation from public secondary schools across the six education districts in Lagos, aimed to foster safety consciousness, encourage research-based traffic solutions, and instill responsible road use among students.

The winning entry from Education District III impressed the panel of judges with a well-researched essay and an innovative miniature road project model that proposed community-based strategies to reduce pedestrian-related accidents in high-risk areas of Lagos. The project incorporated smart signage, pedestrian-friendly layouts, and reflective safety cues aimed at preventing common road mishaps.

Speaking at the award ceremony, the Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, commended the winning district and all participating schools for their creativity and commitment to public safety. She emphasized the government’s continued efforts to integrate civic responsibility and road safety education into the school curriculum.

“Traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility. Empowering students with knowledge and a sense of ownership in this area is key to developing a more conscious and proactive generation,” she stated.

Winners received trophies, cash prizes, and certificates of excellence, while their schools were awarded instructional materials and recognition plaques. Organizers reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining the competition as an annual platform to promote safety-driven innovation among Lagos students.
