European Pilgrims on Horseback Capture Hearts as They Arrive in Saudi Arabia for Hajj 2025

In a remarkable display of faith and resilience, four Muslim pilgrims-three from Spain and one from Morocco-have arrived in Saudi Arabia on horseback after an arduous journey across Europe and the Middle East to participate in this year’s Hajj pilgrimage. Their arrival at the Al Hadithah border crossing in the northern Al Qurayyat region has not only revived memories of ancient pilgrimage routes but also captured the admiration of millions across the globe.

The group’s journey, which saw them traverse deserts and mountains much like the pilgrims of centuries past, culminated in a warm reception by Saudi officials and local volunteers. Videos circulating widely on social media show the riders, visibly weary and covered in dust, being greeted with applause and heartfelt hospitality after weeks on the road. This rare feat stands out at a time when most pilgrims opt for air or road travel, highlighting the enduring spiritual drive that defines the Hajj experience.

Mamdouh Al Mutairi, director of the Al Hadithah centre, personally welcomed the pilgrims, describing their journey as “a powerful symbol of faith and commitment.” He praised their determination, saying, “This remarkable effort reflects the deep spiritual drive of pilgrims coming to Hajj, regardless of the challenges. We wish them a safe and accepted pilgrimage”.

Saudi border authorities, in collaboration with medical and support teams, conducted thorough health checks on the riders and provided them with refreshments and essential guidance. The gesture is part of a broader government initiative to ensure dignified and efficient services for all pilgrims entering the Kingdom this year. The local Development Association of Al Hadithah also organized a small ceremony, presenting the riders with hospitality kits, flowers, and traditional welcomes, further underlining the spirit of unity and brotherhood that the Hajj embodies.

This year, more than 1.8 million pilgrims are expected to converge on Saudi Arabia for Hajj, with preparations in full swing across the Kingdom. Yet, the story of these four riders stands out as a testament to unwavering devotion and perseverance, reminding the world of the timeless essence of the Hajj pilgrimage
