FCCPC Summons Air Peace Over Flight Cancellations, Unpaid Refunds

Abuja, Nigeria – June 16, 2025

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has summoned Air Peace over a series of flight cancellations and delayed refunds that have sparked widespread consumer complaints.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commission said it had received numerous reports from passengers alleging that Air Peace failed to honour flight schedules and neglected to process refunds in a timely manner, in violation of consumer protection laws.

According to the FCCPC, the airline has been invited to appear before the Commission to provide explanations regarding the disruptions, as well as to outline concrete steps being taken to address affected customers and prevent future occurrences.

The Commission noted that repeated flight cancellations without adequate notice or compensation, coupled with refund delays, not only inconvenience passengers but also breach aviation consumer rights as stipulated by Nigerian law and global aviation standards.

FCCPC Executive Vice Chairman, Babatunde Irukera, emphasized the Commission’s commitment to ensuring accountability within the aviation sector. “Consumers must not be left stranded or treated unfairly. We are determined to hold service providers accountable for lapses that undermine public confidence and cause economic losses.”

Air Peace is expected to respond formally within the stipulated period. The FCCPC has warned that failure to comply could result in sanctions, including administrative penalties or legal action.

Affected passengers have been encouraged to submit detailed complaints with supporting documents to aid the Commission’s ongoing investigation.
