Abuja, Nigeria – June 14, 202
The Federal Government has unveiled a new youth empowerment programme aimed at tackling unemployment and fostering entrepreneurship among young Nigerians.
The initiative, launched by the Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Amina Bello, at the Abuja International Conference Centre, targets over 500,000 youths across the six geopolitical zones. The programme will offer training in vocational skills, digital literacy, and access to microcredit.
In her address, Dr. Bello emphasized the importance of equipping young people with practical skills to drive economic development. “Our youths are the engine of national growth. With the right support, they will transform Nigeria’s future,” she said.
Beneficiaries of the programme will undergo intensive training for six months and receive start-up grants to launch their businesses. The government is partnering with several private sector players, including tech firms and financial institutions, to ensure the programme’s success.
One of the beneficiaries, Grace Okon from Cross River State, expressed optimism: “This programme is a life-changer. I now have the chance to turn my ideas into a real business.”
The launch also featured exhibitions of youth-led innovations and products, with stakeholders commending the initiative as timely and impactful.
