FG and Nasarawa Deepen Collaboration on Agricultural Transformation

Lafia, Nasarawa State | August 8, 2025
The Federal Government and the Nasarawa State Government have reaffirmed their commitment to agricultural transformation through strengthened collaboration aimed at enhancing food security, rural development, and economic diversification.

This renewed partnership was formalized during a high-level engagement held in Lafia, where senior federal officials and the Nasarawa State leadership outlined joint strategies to boost productivity, attract private sector investment, and modernize the state’s agricultural value chains.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, emphasized the strategic importance of Nasarawa in Nigeria’s food production ecosystem, citing its vast arable land, agribusiness potential, and proximity to major markets. “This collaboration is vital to the Federal Government’s mission to achieve food self-sufficiency and reduce import dependency,” he said.

Governor Abdullahi Sule expressed appreciation for the Federal Government’s support, noting that Nasarawa is well-positioned to drive agricultural innovation and youth empowerment through mechanized farming, agro-processing, and access to funding. He highlighted the state’s ongoing investment in irrigation systems, farm settlements, and rural infrastructure.

Key areas of collaboration include the implementation of the National Agricultural Growth Scheme, establishment of agro-industrial hubs, climate-smart farming practices, and capacity-building for local farmers and cooperatives.

The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes agriculture as a cornerstone of inclusive economic growth and poverty reduction. Both governments pledged to maintain strong coordination and deliver tangible results that improve livelihoods, create jobs, and ensure food availability across Nigeria.
