Governor Sule Distributes 100 Electric Vehicles to Youths in Lafia

Lafia, Nasarawa State | Thursday, August 21, 2025

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State on Thursday distributed 50 electric cars and 50 electric tricycles to 100 indigent youths in Lafia, the state capital, as part of an initiative to drive economic empowerment and sustainable mobility.

Speaking at the event, Governor Sule explained that the beneficiaries are expected to operate the vehicles as businesses, thereby creating jobs and reducing unemployment. He emphasized that the vehicles are powered entirely by electricity, not petrol or compressed natural gas, underscoring the state’s commitment to green energy solutions.

The governor also announced the commissioning of a charging centre at the newly constructed state secretariat in Lafia, with additional facilities planned for Akwanga and Keffi to serve the state’s northern and western senatorial districts.

Governor Sule highlighted that the vehicles are fitted with air-conditioning systems and designed to operate throughout the day on a full charge, making theme viable for commercial use by civil servants, students, and the general public.

While the initiative has been welcomed as a bold step towards sustainable transportation, further details on funding, long-term maintenance, and beneficiary support are yet to be clarified.
