Abuja, Nigeria — August 13, 2025 | The Federal Government has approved ₦142 billion for the construction of state-of-the-art bus terminals in six strategic locations across Nigeria, aimed at boosting travel safety, reducing highway crime, and improving transport efficiency.
Minister of Transportation, Sai’du Alkali, said the terminals will be located in Abeokuta (Ogun State), Gombe (Gombe State), Kano (Kano State), Lokoja (Kogi State), Onitsha (Anambra State), and Ewu (Edo State). These sites were chosen for their economic relevance and potential to serve as major transport hubs.
The approval was given at Monday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu, where the Council also ordered all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to conclude their 2024 procurement processes by September 2025.
Alkali noted that the project will provide safer, more comfortable travel for passengers, curb criminal activities on highways, and improve the overall performance of Nigeria’s transportation network.
