The Federal Ministry of Education has strongly condemned the assault on a vice principal at Complete Child Development College, Aule, Akure, Ondo State, by suspected thugs allegedly hired by the parents of a student involved in examination malpractice.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the attack occurred during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), when the Vice Principal, Mr. Rotifa, was assaulted for enforcing examination integrity.
The Ministry commended the swift response of Ondo State Governor, His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and the State Police Command for the prompt arrest of the suspects, including a woman identified as Mrs. Dorcas Asije, along with four other accomplices. The Ministry urged that a thorough investigation be carried out and all offenders prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Honourable Minister of Education, reaffirmed the Ministry’s zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice, intimidation of school staff, and any unethical behaviour from students, parents, or guardians. The Minister emphasized that any student caught cheating will face appropriate sanctions in line with national examination guidelines, while any guardian who facilitates or supports such acts will be prosecuted under the law.
“All schools are encouraged to promptly report any threats or breaches of conduct during examinations to law enforcement and educational authorities,” the statement read.
The Ministry also noted that it is working in collaboration with state education ministries, law enforcement agencies, and examination bodies to enhance the security and integrity of the examination process nationwide.
The Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its support for the management and staff of Complete Child Development College and called on all stakeholders in the education sector to uphold values of discipline, accountability, and academic excellence.
