Victims of the recent communal clash in Yamaltu Deba Federal Constituency have received relief materials as part of coordinated efforts by the federal and Gombe State governments to bring succour to affected residents.
The distribution exercise, which took place over the weekend, was aimed at alleviating the immediate suffering of displaced families and individuals whose homes and livelihoods were disrupted during the unfortunate incident. Items distributed included food supplies such as rice, beans, and maize; hygiene kits; mattresses; clothing; and temporary shelter materials.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, representatives of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), alongside officials from the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), emphasized the importance of restoring hope and stability to the affected communities. They assured residents that further interventions were underway to support long-term recovery and reconciliation.
The member representing Yamaltu Deba Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, who was present at the event, expressed deep concern over the impact of the clash and called for continued peace and understanding among the various groups in the area. He appreciated both the state and federal agencies for their swift response and urged community leaders to work closely with authorities to prevent future violence.
Local beneficiaries, many of whom are currently residing in temporary camps or with relatives, expressed gratitude for the gesture. Some recounted the trauma they experienced during the clash, while also pleading for lasting peace and improved security.
The communal conflict, which erupted last month over longstanding land disputes, left several homes destroyed and forced hundreds to flee. In response, the government has pledged to intensify peacebuilding initiatives while ensuring that victims are not left behind in ongoing recovery efforts.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to rebuilding affected areas and strengthening intercommunal dialogue, stressing that coexistence remains vital for sustained development in Gombe State.
