ABUJA — The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural capacity through education and research, as it welcomed key members of the Mubi Sabondale Development Association who are supporting the successful take-off of the newly established Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, in Adamawa State.
Prominent members of the association, including the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Alhaji Sali Isah Bello, CFR; former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Mena; Professor Ladi Hamalai; and Dr. Umar, Director of General Services at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, paid a courtesy visit to underscore the community’s support for the university.

Established in 2024, the Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, was founded by the Federal Government to boost Nigeria’s drive toward agricultural self-sufficiency and food security. The institution is part of broader national efforts to bridge the skills gap in modern farming practices and agricultural science.
During the visit, it was revealed that members of the Sabondale Development Association and the broader Mayo Bani community generously donated properties, event centres, furniture, and other resources to ensure the seamless launch of the university. Their gesture was described as a profound demonstration of unity, patriotism, and grassroots-driven development.
Speaking on the significance of the collaboration, the Honourable Minister of Education lauded the community’s initiative and described Mubi as a natural choice for agricultural advancement due to its historical background in wheat and cattle production. He highlighted that Nigeria’s diverse ecological zones, rich soil, and favorable climate provide an excellent foundation for transforming the country into a regional leader in agriculture.
In alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Ministry of Education has pledged to support the establishment of a Research Institute for Wheat Production at the university. Plans are also underway to create a Wheat and Livestock Farm within the institution to serve both academic and commercial purposes.
“As global demand for wheat and other essential crops continues to rise, Nigeria must act strategically to harness its agricultural potential. Our investment in research and education is key to boosting GDP, improving food security, and creating jobs,” the Minister said.
The Federal University of Agriculture, Mubi, is expected to become a hub for innovation in agricultural sciences, producing skilled graduates capable of transforming Nigeria’s farming systems and agribusiness landscape.
The meeting concluded with renewed commitments to deepen cooperation between the government and the Mubi community as the university takes shape.
