FG Plans to Inaugurate Abia Segment of Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway Soon

Abuja, June 20, 2025 – The Federal Government, led by the Minister of Works David Umahi, has announced that the Abia State section of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway will soon be inaugurated, following the near-completion of rehabilitation and reconstruction works.

During an inspection in Aba, the Minister confirmed that the 56.1 km Umuahia–Aba section is set for unveiling by June. He disclosed that only the final two kilometres of earthwork and four kilometres of asphalt pave the stretch remain, assuring the public that all contractor directives will be fulfilled within the set timeframe .

Umahi praised the performance of Arab Contractors (Nig.) Ltd., attributing the swift project progression to their effective mobilisation and adherence to instructions. He also acknowledged the support of Governor Alex Otti, commending his efforts to clear obstructions that facilitated smooth construction .

The Minister stated that funding for the project was secured through the 2024 and 2025 federal budgets, ensuring continuity and prioritisation within the Federal Government’s broader infrastructure agenda.

Once commissioned, this section is expected to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, reduce travel time, and boost economic activities in the Southeast and South-South regions, providing a major milestone in Nigeria’s commitment to upgrading critical transport infrastructure.
