The Federal Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging the commencement of a nationwide free distribution of a so-called “revolutionary diabetes drug.”
In a statement issued on Monday, the Federal Ministry of Health described the claim as false, warning Nigerians to disregard the misleading information. The ministry stressed that no such medical product had been approved for mass distribution by the government, nor was there any ongoing programme to provide it free of charge.
According to the ministry, the message, which has been widely shared on WhatsApp and other online platforms, appears to be part of a scam aimed at exploiting vulnerable citizens, particularly those living with diabetes. Health authorities advised the public to seek accurate medical information from official government channels and licensed healthcare providers.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring that only safe, scientifically tested, and regulatory-approved drugs are made available to Nigerians, while urging citizens to remain cautious of health-related online claims that lack credible sources.
