The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), in partnership with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), has donated two new compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to the BPP. The move aligns with the “Nigeria First” policy, which mandates that federal agencies prioritize locally made goods and services over imports.
The BPP welcomed the donation, stating it will help strengthen procurement processes and serve as a model for public-sector transport innovation. The buses also reinforce the policy’s goal of 100% procurement of locally assembled goods, explained the BPP Director General, following guidelines that exceed previous 40% local purchase targets under earlier executive orders.
Additionally, the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) praised the initiative. The council emphasized that the buses were locally assembled and available for public procurement, reinforcing the government’s commitment to boosting local manufacturing, especially in the auto sector. Industry heavyweights, like Innoson, expressed optimism, stating that domestic automakers are now capable of meeting federal agency needs in areas such as buses, pickups, and specialized vehicles.
