The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, has commended the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for his administration’s unwavering support for fiscal collaboration and efficient tax administration. Dr. Adedeji made the remarks during the official opening ceremony of the 157th meeting of the Joint Tax Board (JTB), which took place in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
In his address, the FIRS chairman expressed profound gratitude to Governor Makinde for hosting the strategic gathering, which brought together key stakeholders in the Nigerian tax ecosystem. The meeting, which is a routine but significant forum for aligning federal and state tax policies, focused on improving synergy between revenue authorities and advancing reforms in tax collection, compliance, and digital transformation.
Dr. Adedeji highlighted the importance of cooperative federalism in tax administration, noting that seamless collaboration between federal and subnational entities is critical to achieving Nigeria’s revenue goals and financing sustainable development. He emphasized that the JTB remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s tax governance architecture and a vital platform for strengthening accountability and fairness in the country’s fiscal system.
The Ibadan meeting featured technical sessions, policy discussions, and experience-sharing among top officials from the FIRS, State Internal Revenue Services (SIRS), and other regulatory institutions. The deliberations are expected to produce actionable strategies to boost tax collection and expand the nation’s revenue base in line with current economic realities.
