FRSC Issues Urgent Warning Against Speeding Following Devastating Ogun Road Crashes

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning to motorists against speeding, following a series of tragic road accidents in Ogun State that resulted in significant loss of life. On Saturday, two major crashes occurred in the state, claiming a total of at least 25 lives, including an FRSC officer.

The first accident happened on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the NIPCO filling station, where a Mack truck lost control due to excessive speed, colliding with a tanker and a bus. This crash claimed seven lives and injured four people.

Later that day, a more devastating accident occurred along the Ikorodu-Sagamu Road, involving seven vehicles, including two DAF trucks, a Toyota Hiace bus, a Honda car, a police pickup, and two motorcycles. The crash, which was exacerbated by brake failure and reckless driving, resulted in the deaths of 18 people, including an FRSC officer who was part of the rescue team.

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed deep sorrow over the incidents and emphasized the need for motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and maintain their vehicles properly to prevent such tragedies. The FRSC has vowed to prosecute drivers responsible for reckless driving and is urging all road users to support efforts to curb speed limit violations and make Nigerian roads safer.

These accidents highlight the urgent need for improved road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic laws in Nigeria. As the FRSC continues to push for safer driving practices, it remains crucial for motorists to exercise caution and respect speed limits to prevent further loss of life on the nation’s roads.
