Fury Should Stay Retired”: Bob Arum Doubts Tyson Fury Will Fight Again

Renowned boxing promoter Bob Arum has cast doubt on Tyson Fury’s return to the ring, stating emphatically that the former heavyweight champion “should stay retired.” Speaking in an interview, Arum emphasized that Fury, at 36 years old, has “had enough” of the sport and owes it to himself and his family to remain happily retired.

Fury announced his retirement in January 2025 following back-to-back losses to Ukrainian fighter Oleksandr Usyk. The defeats marked the end of Fury’s bid to reclaim the undisputed heavyweight title and left many questioning whether he would ever return to boxing. Despite speculation about a potential fight with fellow British star Anthony Joshua, Arum believes Fury’s decision should be final this time.

“Tyson has achieved everything there is to achieve in boxing,” Arum said. “He’s earned generational wealth, and his family will never want for anything. I don’t think he should step in the ring again because I think he’s had enough. He’s an extraordinary communicator and entertainer; he can contribute to the sport in other ways without taking physical punishment.”

Fury’s career has been marked by both triumphs and controversies. He first captured the unified heavyweight titles in 2015 by defeating Wladimir Klitschko and later reclaimed the WBC title in 2020 after a dramatic trilogy with Deontay Wilder. However, his career also included multiple retirements, comebacks, and personal battles outside the ring.

While fans continue to hope for a long-anticipated showdown with Joshua, Arum dismissed its significance, stating, “That fight doesn’t move the needle anymore.” Instead, he suggested that Fury focus on roles within boxing that leverage his charisma and knowledge of the sport.

For now, it seems Tyson Fury’s storied career may have reached its final chapter. Whether he stays retired or returns for one last fight remains a question only time will answer.
