As the much-anticipated Gateway Games 2024 kick off, the Ogun State Government has charged its contingent of athletes to compete with courage, pride, and unwavering determination.
In a message of motivation and support delivered ahead of the sporting festival, the government reaffirmed its commitment to rewarding excellence, stating that deliberate measures have been put in place to recognize and compensate athletes who demonstrate outstanding performance.
“We believe that hard work, discipline, and dedication deserve recognition. This is why we are not only sending our athletes to compete — we are backing them with incentives that encourage victory and celebrate excellence,” the statement read.
The state’s athletes, drawn from various local government areas and sporting disciplines, are set to represent Ogun with vigour and skill at the prestigious games, which aim to promote unity and sports development among Nigeria’s states.
While urging Team Ogun to give their best and maintain the spirit of fair competition, the government emphasized that the entire state stands firmly behind them. “Our message to Team Ogun is simple: go for the medals, make us proud, and remember that your state is with you every step of the way.”
The Gateway Games, a platform for discovering and nurturing athletic talent across Nigeria, also serve as a preparatory ground for future national and international competitions. Ogun State’s participation reflects its continued investment in youth development and sports excellence.
