LAGOS, Nigeria – The Ogun State Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Dikko Adekunle, has dismissed claims of negligence surrounding the recent power outage during the Gateway Games, describing it instead as a result of an unexpected technical glitch.
Speaking in a press briefing, Dikko explained that the disruption, which affected several events and caused brief delays, was not due to any lapse in planning or management by the event organisers. “We have thoroughly investigated the incident and found that it was caused by a technical fault beyond our control,” he stated.
The Commissioner reassured athletes, officials, and spectators that all necessary measures have been taken to restore normalcy and prevent a recurrence. “Our priority is the smooth running of the Games, and we remain committed to delivering a world-class sporting event,” he added.
Dikko also urged the public to avoid speculation and unfounded allegations that could undermine the hard work of the organisers and participants.
The Gateway Games, a key regional sporting event for the South-West, continues despite the hiccup, with organisers confident of a successful conclusion.
