Sokoto — In a significant move to deepen spiritual growth and community cohesion, the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, has commissioned the newly reconstructed Shagari Jumu’at Mosque, a historic centre of worship situated in the hometown of revered Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Mahmoud Gummi.
The commissioning ceremony, held amidst a gathering of community members, Islamic scholars, and government officials, marked another milestone in the current administration’s infrastructure renewal drive with a strong focus on religious and cultural preservation.
Speaking at the event, Governor Aliyu described the reconstruction of the mosque as a reflection of his administration’s resolve to promote faith-based values and strengthen communal identity across Sokoto State. “This mosque is not only a place of worship but a living symbol of our heritage and the spiritual foundations upon which Sokoto was built,” he stated.
The event was graced by former Deputy Governor, Barrister Mukhtar Shagari, who officially commissioned the mosque. In his remarks, Shagari lauded the state government’s dedication to uplifting religious institutions and commended Governor Aliyu for aligning development efforts with the moral and spiritual aspirations of the people.
Governor Aliyu further urged the mosque’s leadership and the broader Shagari community to take ownership of the newly completed facility by ensuring its maintenance, cleanliness, and continued relevance as a centre of guidance and unity.
“As we build roads, schools, and hospitals, we are equally building on the values that sustain our society,” the Governor added. “This mosque must remain a beacon of peace, faith, and enlightenment for generations to come.”
The reconstructed Shagari Jumu’at Mosque stands not only as a place of spiritual convergence but also as a testimony to Sokoto State’s enduring commitment to purposeful development rooted in faith, culture, and unity.
